How NewSpring Church Increased Engagement through Daily Spiritual Habits
"Almost 10k people a month use the NewSpring App for their daily spiritual disciplines. The app would not be as successful as it is without the Apollos team. I'm always looking for new ways to take advantage of our partnership!"
Frank Grand
Technology Product Owner
NewSpring Church is a thriving congregation with 14 campuses across South Carolina. With a guiding vision of wanting “everyone everywhere to have an everyday relationship with Jesus”, the church plays a vital role in the lives of its community members.
However, like many churches, NewSpring faced the challenge of keeping members consistently engaged in their spiritual journey beyond weekend gatherings. Digital natives coming up in the church expect to be served both physically and digitally–so NewSpring decided to meet them where they are. Their team explored the role of technology in the Church to better connect with their community daily.
“If we can only get people our teaching in-person an hour a month, how can we use technology to extend that time?”
Frank Grand
Frank Grand, Technology Product Owner, wanted to integrate the spiritual disciplines they were encouraging within an app. The objective was to ensure that NewSpring's spiritual practices were easily accessible seven days a week.
In their initial research, NewSpring found plenty of church apps, but they were purely content driven (video and blog content-focused). What they were really interested in was figuring out how people can engage inside the app.
The solution was Daily Spiritual Habits featuring gratitude, prayer, and daily scripture. This transformative addition empowers members to cultivate intentional spiritual practices, enhancing their faith journey each day.
After launching Daily Spiritual Habits on the NewSpring app, engagement dramatically increased across their campuses. People who use the NewSpring church app more than five days a week doubled.
Today, over 64,000 members have installed the NewSpring app to connect with their community and grow in their faith. Of these users, 37,000 actively subscribe to push notifications and there are 45,000 prayers prayed every month on average.
